5 Weeks in Spiritual Formation

I just stumbled upon a 5-part spiritual formation lecture series from Dr. John Coe (from Biola University’s Institute for Spiritual Formation). I’ve already listened to the first lecture and I have to say it’s great stuff! So, what I’d like to do is invite anyone who is interested to go and download the series (along with the outlines and prayer projects) and we’ll use this space for a 5 week long discussion. Each week we’ll listen to one lecture, do the corresponding prayer project, and come here to discuss what we are learning. If you are interested, go here to … Continue reading

How do you define spiritual maturity?

An interesting study by the Barna Group recently found that a large amount of “churchgoers” were unable to give a clear answer as to what their church expects in terms of spiritual maturity. On top of that, many of those surveyed were unable to give a clear definition of their own as to what spiritual maturity looks like. Curious George rip So, I’d like to open up some discussion here. The Role of the Bible part 4

Leading to Life Kind Hearts and Coronets download George Mueller wrote that the “vigor of our spiritual life is in direct proportion to the place we hold the Bible in our thoughts.” The ultimate goal of the shaping and transforming is to lead a person into the “life that really is life”. Streams: The Prayer-filled Life

People have a lot of role models today. Jesus was a role model for his disciples. He modeled the life with God to them. Part of that life was prayer – really central to that life was prayer. This is why the disciples said to him in Luke 11 after they saw him praying – “Lord, teach us to pray”. Surely they were familiar with the traditional Jewish forms of prayer, but they something different in their role model. Jesus is our role model as well and tonight we want to learn from him the prayer filled life. What is … Continue reading

Book Review: Life With God

Submitted by Steve Ryan Most Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God. Most Christians also believe that the Bible is a source of wisdom, knowledge and inspiration. For them, the Bible not only records the beginning of creation, but the end of time as well. All Christians, regardless of their beliefs, generally agree that the Bible is a special book. I think that Richard Foster would agree with this assessment. The first sentence of his book, Life With God: Reading the Bible for Spiritual Transformation, reads:” God has given us a written revelation of who God is … Continue reading
