A Thousand Acres video The season of Advent starts today. If you don’t know, Advent is a season of “expectant waiting” prior to Christmas. I would like to encourage you to participate in Advent this year as a part of your faith journey. Advent can be a special time in which you can re-focus on the true meaning of Christmas and can make the whole Christmas season more meaningful. You can read more about Advent here

This Christmas season, don’t be sucked into the rush and chaos of what so much of Christmas has unfortunately become. Take time this year to embrace this season for all it means and is meant to represent. This is the time when we remember and celebrate the coming of Jesus into the world to rescue us. The world has never been the same, so don’t let this time slip by – celebrate the coming of Jesus and look with expectation to his return!

    Jesus, the day Your birthday is celebrated draws closer.
    The world rushes around to buy presents, and we forget about the greatest present of all, You.

    Jesus, let this Advent season be one where I frequently turn my attention to You.
    Let this Advent season be one of devotion to You.
    Let this Advent season be one where You are exalted in my heart and mind
    Help me to be more caring and compassionate to others.
    Help me to always remember that You are the reason for the season.
    Finally, help me to remember and act on the fact that Your birth gives hope to the world, and salvation to all who believe.
